TEXAS STRUCK BY STORMS
Eight Reported Missing <N.Z Press Association—Copyngnt) HOUSTON (Texas), July 26. Hurricane Debra, the worst tropical storm of the suinmer season, battered the Texas coast last night with vicious 105-mile-an-hour winds and lashing rain squalls, damaging property worth millions of dollars. At least eight persons were reported missing as the hurricane moved slowly inland. The Coast Guard reported four persons were missing on a 26ft cabin cruiser in the gulf south of Freeport, and two men were missing on Green Lake, northwest of Corpus Christi. Two other men were also missing—one at Freeport, and the other at Texas City. Early today no deaths had been confirmed. “Heavy rains are still a threat to life and property as the storm moves slowly northward,” the Weather Bureau said.
