Altered Exchange Rates The £ gained 1-3 cents on the Canadian dollar last week, oil'-! setting the 4 cent loss of the previous week. Sterling was slightly weaker in relation to the United States dollar and several European! currencies. Altered telegraphic transfer ex-| change rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank ot New South Wales.: are as follows: New Zealand on:— New York, buying. 2.8067 dollars: to XN.Z.I (compared with 2.8076 dollars on July 20); selling, 2.7747: dollars <2.77561 Montreal. 2 6922 dollars (2.68901. i 2.6572 dollars (2.6541). Austria: 72.62 schillings (72.68);! 71.15 schillings (71.20). Denmark: 19 60 kroner (same);: 18.92 kroner (18.93). France: 1388 francs (1389); 1350 francs (1351). Italy: 1747 lire (1748); 1712 lire (1713). Sweden: 14.63 kroner (14.64); 14.29 kroner (14.30). Switzerland: 12.13 francs (same); 11.68 francs (11.89). Helicopters for Oil Survey.— Helicopters are being used to speed up a survey for oil in south-west Queensland. The Mini- : ster for National Development (Senator W. H. Spooner) announced this as part of an intensive drive to find oil and metal in Australia. He said the Bureau of Mineral Resources would continue its geological mapping in the Georgian Basin, astride the Queensland-Northern Territory border.—Canberra, July $7.
