ARTIFICIAL HERD BREEDING
Jersey Club Motion Defeated (New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, July 21. Artificial breeding does not get the results claimed for it, Mr R. Johnson said at the Whangarei Jersey Club meeting today. He said that the claims of Dr. McMeekan for production Increase in the Ruakura herd were far too high, and the bulk of the increase could well be due to better than average management. People with interests in artificial breeding were trying to sell their “line” and were capitalising on genuine breeder’s brains and knowledge, and their past expenses in developing the cattle. Mr J. A. Stevens. Maungatapere, a member of the executive, moved: “That this club does not deal in Artificially bred progeny." Put to a secret vote the motion was defeated by 14 votes to nine with a number of abstentions.
