INTER-SCHOOL SPORTS
Linwood Beats Naenae Rugby, soccer, basketball, and boys’ and girls' hockey matches were played by teams from Naenae College, Wellington, and Linwood High School in their third annual winter sports tournament at Linwood yesterday. All the matches were won by Linwood High School. In a very fast, well-fought game Linwood won the girls’ basketball by 31 goals to 18. The girls' hockey match was a very even game. Both teams were unlucky at times. Linwood won, 1-0. The only goal was scored by E. Wright. Linwood proved too strong for its younger opponents in the boys’ hockey, and won 10-0. The boys' soccer game was between two evenly-matched teams. All goals came in the second half. Linwood won, 3-1. The scorer for Naenae was R Sharman. and the scorer for Linwood was G. Wilson (3). The Rugby was a good exhibition of hard secondary school play, with both sides throwing the ball about at every opportunity. The Naenae backs were more polished but the Linwood forwards more than heid the heavier Naenae pack. Linwood won, 14-12. Scorers for Naenae were G Sutherland, M. Allan, G. McIntyre (tries), and W. Fulford kicked a penalty goal. For Linwood, K McDonald scored a try and kicked a penalty goal, and B. McDonald kicked two penalty goals and converted a try. i
