TARGET FOR TOWN HALL
Mayor Gives His View The more money raised by Town Hall Promotion and set aside by the Christchurch City Council towards the cost of a town hall the less money would need to be raised by loan, the Mayor <Mr G. Manning) said yesterday He was commenting on a suggestion that Town Hall Promotion should review its target of £200,000 Mr Manning said the target of £200,000 was good in relation to the possible cost of a town hall. “I sincerely hope they will go on with their campaign. They •are creating a strong civic con'sciousness in the demand for a toWn hall,” he said. I He said there were three methods for raising finance for a town hall. “First there is the 'amount set aside by the City Council—this will be £lOO.OOO by next year. “Then there is the money collected by Town Hall Promotion. The rest will have to be raised by loan,” Mr Manning said. ‘•The more we can get from the City Council and Town Hall Promotion the less there will have to be raised by loan.” He commended the work being done by Town Hall Promotion. “A town hall will be an asset for many years. Those who use it in the future can make their contribution in the redemption of the loan,” Mr Manning added.
