WATER MILL TAKES HIS 2nd HUNT CUP

PALMERSTON NORTH, July 19. Water Mill won nis second Manawatu Hunt Cup in succession when he ran on strongly to beat tne pacemaker, Hot Ice. The Hunt Cup was the feature race of the Manawatu Hunt Club's annual meeting at Awapuni on Saturday. Water Mill trailed Hot Ice until half a mile from home. He then joined the leader and was clearly in front at the last fence. He ran it out strongly to beat Hot Ice by six lengths, with Genteel plugging on for a goood third well clear of Calm Lass The favourite. Gold Caste, ran sixth, but he was well beaten and never looked like winning. It was found that he had stifled himself. Water Mill gave B. J. Langford nis third win of the day, ids other successes being with West Derby and Romantic Knight. Both water Mill and West Derby are raced by the Prestons, of Levin. Finishing gamely to hard riding by J. W. Harris, Mireusonta won ~,e first leg of the TAB. double narrowly from the favourite. True with Sir Libra a good third. The second leg was won impressively by Royal Fountain, which trailed the leader, Spiborough, around the nome turn and outfinishing him in the last furlong, lhe outsider, Autojet, was a good third clear of Gold Merit, which slipped at the start, but made up a terrific amount of ground over the final stages.
