NURSES TO STUDY ABROAD

Two Scholarships Awarded Two New Zealand nurses have recently been awarded scholarships for overseas. study. Miss Nancy Kinross, tutor at the Christchurch Public Hospital, will gq to the School of Nursing of the University of California in the United States. Miss Thelma Burton, tutor at St. Helen’s Hospital, Auckland, will go to the Royal College of Nursing, London. ■The scholarships are awarded by the New Zealand sub-commit-tee of the British Commonwealth Nurses’ War Memorial Fund. Both nurses will spend the next academic year abroad. They must return and give at least two years’ service to New Zealand nursing. - Miss Kinross graduated at thr Christchurch Public Hospital in 1952. As a trained member of the tutorial staff, she completed her B.A. degree at Canterbury University College. She gained her maternity certificate at the Hutt Hospital in 1953, and finished a post-graduate Course in Wellington in 1956. In her leisure Miss Kinross enjoys tennis, swimming and golf and is interested in indoor gardening and cooking. After graduating from the Timaru Public Hospital in 1947. Miss Burtbn completed a course at ■ the New Zealand PostGraduate School in Wellington in 1950. She did her midwifery training at St. Helens Hospital in Christchurch in 1955, and he: Plunket training in 1957 Miss Burton has worked both as ward and tutor sister at Timaru Public Hospital. For recreation, Miss Burton enjoys sport, drama, reading or gardening.
