MOTOR-CYCLISTS’ TRAINING

Work Of School Commended Of 309 pupils who have passed through fixe Christchurch Combined Motor-Cycle Clubs’ Training School since its inception three years ago, only one pupil failed to pass the learner’s test This was reported at the annual meeting of the organisation. In his annual report the chairman (Mr C. A. Treneary) said at the present time the school’s roll was down, due to the normal drop in the winter period. Of the pupils, the number of women learners had increased, many of whom after training made excellent drivers. Mr Treneary thanked the Christchurch City Council Traffic Superintendent Mr O. P. Kellar, and his staff for their assistance to ' the organisation during the year.

On behalf of the City Council, the patron of the school, the Mayor (Mr G. Manning) complimented the school on its success. “If we can get the idea of the school and its training over to the young people in the city then we will be doing a fine thing for the sport of motor-cycling, he said. “If an individual has been through a training school and been subjected to a rigid teat as required by the testing officer, 1 see no reason in the wide world why they must have to display L plates,” said Mr Kellar. “If none of your pupils has been involved in any accidents then you have a good case towards their abolition,” he said. Traffic officers who had tested the school’s pupils had reported a vast improvement in the handling of the machines and knowledge of the road code, said the district officer of the Transport Department (Mr D. L. Hogan). Commending the forthcoming “courtesy campaign,” Mr Hogan said he would like to aee more good humour among road u»ers. "We are sure that courtesy is the basis of good traffic laws.” Officers elected were:—Patron, Mr G. Manning; president, Mr C. A. Treneary; vice-president, H. Henry; secretary-treasurer, Mr M. A. Cook.
