Obituary
MR G. H. CHRISTIE Mr George Hart Christie, secretary of the Tai Tapu Central Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd., for nearly 40 years, died suddenly in Christchurch yesterday afternoon. He was 71. He was a past president of the Canterbury Employers’ Association, and was president of tha Canterbury and Westland Dairy Company Employers’ Association for 10 years. Mr Christie, was a prominent member of the Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association, and was the national president in 1940. He was president of the Canterbury association for a year, and at the time of his death had been treasurer of the association for 20 years. Mr Christie was the representative of the association on the Victory Park Board of control, and was a member of the Midland Club. He is survived by his wife, • son, and two daughters.
MR J. S. MIDDLETON
A former Canterbury Rugby representative, Mr James Seymour Middleton, died in Christchurch yesterday. • He was 85 years old.
Mr Middleton was born in Rakaia and educated in Christchurch. He joined the Christchurch Rugby Football Club about 1894, and played his first game for Canterbury—against Otago—in 1897. He played for Canterbury, mostly at full-back, until 1901. He was also-a member of the Christchurch club senior team which won the Rugby championship in 1900. Mr Middleton is survived by two sons and a daughter.
