GOAT TO ACT AS “WATCHMAN”
Purchase By Firm The large billy goat which caused an upset in Ferry road on July 14, was purchased yesterday by Mr Ben Cunningham, of a scrap metal firm, and will be used as a “watchman” in the firm’s yard at Bexley. Constable D. R. A. Wombwell took the goat into custody and it has been held in the pound at Sawyers Arms road.
The goat was not claimed by its owner and was put up for auction at midday yesterday as advertised. A small group of persons gathered at the site of the auction and one man expressed the opinion that the goat would be dear at any price. All but one person disclaimed any intention of bidding. It was not until the ranger (Mr K. Harrison) announced that there ; would be no auction that Mr Cunningham said he was a prospective purchaser.
