Motor-Racing 2100-MILE RALLY PLANNED

Southland Car Club Proposal (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, June 24. A 2100-mile car reliability trial, to be known as the South Island Holiday Rally, will be held by the Southland Sports Car Club from January 4 tn January 9 next year. A prelude to the International car racing meeting at Teretonga Park on February 6, the trial is expected to draw up to 120 competitors from many parts of New Zealand. Prize money will total £l4OO. The route will be Invercargill to Dunedin, Christchurch, Richmond, via West Coast to Timaru. down through the Catlins and back to Invercargill. Overnight stops will be at Dunedin (January 4 and 5), Christchurch (January 5 and 6), Richmond. Nelson area (January 6 and 7), Timaru (January 7 and 8). ~, . Accommodation at Invercargill and other overnight stopping places is not being arranged by the organisers. Block bookings of hute at suitable camping grounds will be arranged, and entrants may make use of these and arrange their own cooking and sleeping facilities. The club emphasises that the event is not a high speed dash and points out that the route will not be hard on cars. All roads to be used are normal main highways or secondary country roads without "horror" sections.
