TROTTING Danty Star In Form For Futurity Stakes

Two-year-old pacers will have their last race for the season in the South Auckland Futurity Stakes at the Cambridge Trotting Club’s winter meeting on Saturday. The field of 12 includes five youngsters which will have their first starts at a totalisator meeting. Betting on the race will be dominated by a bracket of three from J. K. Hughes’s Pukekohe team. Danty Star, a failure in a maiden, race at the Thames meeting a fortnight ago. will probably do best of the trio.

Danty Star recorded three placings earlier in the season, her best effort being a second to the brilliant Hautapu in the Great Northern Stakes at Auckland last month.

She raced in fifth position most of the way and finished on in grand style for her placing, although she had no chance with the winner. Saturday’s field does not look to be particularly strong and she will only have to begin reasonably well to gain an overdue win.

Danty Star is by Scottish Star, a U. Scott horse which showed fine form a few years ago when trained by Hughes. She is out of Mundanity, which also showed good winning form for Hughes. Fitment and Modern Song will be bracketed with Danty Star. Fitment had his first race at Franklin last November and finished a fair seventh. He is reported to have trained on well lately and may take part in the finish.

Modern Song will be having his first race start. He is a colt by the Volomite horse. Flying Song, from Modern Methods. He was bred at Heddon Bush by Mr W. R. Hamilton, and bought by Mr W.
