ADVANTAGE RULE IN SCRUMS
Application For Lions’ Matches
The advantage rule will be applied to the scrummage in matches played by the British Isles this season, and almost certainly in other representative and club matches in New Zealand. The main effect of this will be that a half-back who puts the ball into a scrum and has it blocked by an opposing prop is able to recover it when it rebounds. Should he score the try will be allowed.
This interpretation of the rule was agreed upon at a conference between the management of the British Isles touring team and Mr A. C. Swan, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Referees' Association.
The interpretation will be applied in other games when advice of it has been received by local refereess’ associations from the New Zealand body.
