Lytteltons Hard On Van Dycks

Speaking at a National Book League cricket match luncheon Lord Chandos, a cousin of the Governor-General of New Zealand, Lord Cobham, referred to the great Lyttelton cricketing family and said that in the family home there were seven Van Dycks, all of which at one time or another had been holed by a cricket ball. Mr Sydney Goldsack, writing to “The Times” from Sutton, Surrey, describes an old cricket book in his possession in which is a record of a match played in 1867 at Hagley Park, the seat of Lord Lyttelton, between Bromsgrove and the Lyttelton family. Bromsgrove scored 150 in the first innings and 51 in the second. The Lyttelton family won by 10 wickets.
