Operating Profit £217,482

(Neu, Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 24 The National Airways Corporation last year had an operating profit of more than £200,000 for the fourth year in succession, the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Mathison) said today. Actual operating profit for 1958-59 was £217,482. less provision for taxation £82.117 and for interest on capital, £74.389. From the net profit of £60,976. the corporation has written oft' £42,169 in Viscount aircraft preliminary and development costs, leaving a balance of £18,807.

For 1957-58 operating profit was £236.566; net profit £67,136; interest £53.753 and taxation £115.677.

Scheduled-service passengers totalled 553,360 (510.624 the previous year), an increase of 8.37 per cent. (7.78 per cent, the previous year). Individual passenger journeys were equivalent to one in every 4.16 of the population (one in 4.36 the previous year). Although it was not in service for five weeks, the one Viscount in use carried 50,018 passengers between Auckland and Christchurch at a load factor of 80.39 per cent In the eight weeks the service operated up to March 31, 1958. the Viscount carried 8137 passengers at a load factor of 74 per cent. The over-all 1958-59 revenue load factor on all scheduled services was 74.66 per cent. (195758. 76.9 per cent.). Other N.A.C operating statistics are: passenger miles (scheduled service* 195,405.501 (increase 13.5 per cent., previous year 10.52); revenue passenger miles 145.949,133 (increase 12.4 previous year 9.73); freight ton-miles 2.811.065 (increase 6.46 per cent., previous 16.54); mail ton-miles 274.067 (increase 0.89 per cent, previous year 9.45).
