STUDENTS’ ANSWER TO BAN
“Arrive By Twos And Threes” There is no reason why students should not be outside the Civic Chambers at 12.15 p.m. today, the time a students’ deputation is to wait on the Mayor (Mr George Manning), according to advice published yesterday in a special edition "of the Canterbury University newspaper “Canta.”
“We can arrive by twos and threes. We can carry banners. As long as we do not cause an obstruction of the highway or create a disturbance to traffic or to public order, nobody can turn us away,” the newspaper says. “This is our chance to show we meant what we said on Monday night This way we can give all the backing to the petition that would be given by a protest march and still be a legal proceeding,” it says. Students of the Christchurch Teachers’ College have also been urged by their executive, in a special edition of the College's news-sheet, “Tellus,” to support the delegation to the Mayor today. They were legally entitled to be present at the Mayoral Chambers to support the delegation, said the newsletter.
