Major R. E. Johnston has assumed his appointment as officer commanding Area 10 in Christchurch. He had been area commander in Dunedin. Major Johnston was formerly deputyassistant adjutant-general at Southern Military District headquarters in Christchurch. Dr. C. D. Ellyett and Mr P. J Halligan (secretary) will represent the Christchurch Postprimary Schools’ Council at the conference of the New Zealand Secondary School Boards’ Association in Wellington in August
Mr R. G. Hall, who has been manager of the Plaza Theatre for the last three years and a halt, has resigned. Mr Hall, who has been in the picture business for about 24 years, began with Mr Harry Waters, of Christchurch Cinemas, when the Tivoli Theatre opened and managed that theatre for 12 months from its opening. He then went to manage the Regent Theatre which had been opened a year before and remained there until he went to the Plaza Theatre as manager.
