SCHOLARSHIP TO FLY
Templeton Youth’s Award A flying scholarship sponsored by the National Airways Corporation has been awarded by the Christchurch branch of the Air League to a commercial artist, Mr C. A. Sanderson, aged 19, of Templeton. Mr Sanderson is undergoing flying training with the Canterbury Aero Club. The scholarship is the second awarded by the league. The first was awarded in January last year to Mr G. Wright who. obtained his pilot’s licence in July. Both he and Mr Sanderson were members of No 17 Squadron, Air Training Corps. The league hopes to repeat the scholarships at frequent intervals as they are considered to assist in solving one of the major problems of modern civil aviation —the supply of trained pilots.
