Leader Pleased ’ With Visit

“There is no better way of promoting trade than personal contacts and a frank exchange of views,” said the leader of the Czechoslovakian trade delegation (Mr M. Prochazka) today. He said the delegation was anxious to ascertain the requirements of the New Zealand market and to seek the most advantageous forms of promoting and speeding up the development of mutual trade relations between,the two countries. Referring to New Zealand’s import restrictions. Mr Prochazka said that, even under the difficult conditions prevailing, the delegation believed it was well worthwhile endeavouring to extend trade relations between New Zealand an Czechoslovakia. “The present development of our textile industry provides good prospects for rising regular wool imports," he said. “We may also expect increasing imports of hides and industrial fats.”

In view of rapidly increasing consumption by the Czechoslovakian people and the possibility that that could not be met fully by home production, there was a possibility of importing New Zealand meat, he added. Mr Prochazka mentioned the possibility of his country supplying New Zealand with power equipment, cement works, machinery for food processing plants, textile equipment, electrical motors, and diesel, lorry, and other commercial vehicles.
