Soccer VISIT FROM AUCKLAND
Otago Suggestion Supported
Support for a suggestion by the; Otago Football Association that an Auckland team be invited to tour; south next season was given by the management committee of the Canterbury Football Association at a meeting last evening. The Otago association said that the suggested tour would coincide with the reopening of the renovated Caledonian ground in Dunedin next season, and that an Auckland team had not been in Dunedin since 1953. Mr T. C. Gottermeyer suggested the Queen’s Birthday week-end as a suitable time, and outlined a programme for the touring team, taking in games against Canterbury on Saturday, Otago on Monday, and Wellington on Wednesday. In support of this Wellington could play Otago on Saturday and Canterbury on Monday. The Otago suggestion included a proviso for a guarantee to Auckland of a £lOO gate at each centre. The committee agreed that such a tour would be of great benefit to the code. Mr R. van Der Monde, for the classification committee. reported that team sheets were being poorly filled in. and players’ names were often illegible. It was decided to request referees to mention this to the captains of the teams. It was decided to write to the South Canterbury Football Association requesting a date for a Canterbury team to travel to Timaru next month.
