FOUND DEAD IN KITCHEN
Sisters Killed By Leaking Gas
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 21.
Two elderly sisters were found dead in the gas-filled kitchen of their home at Edinburgh street, Newton, this morning. They were
Miss Susan Gearon, aged 92, and Miss Mary Gearon, aged 79. The bodies were found by a friend who called at 10 a.m. to take the sisters to church.
Gas was leaking from a cooking ring that had not been turned off properly. The police say there are no suspicious circumstances. They believe the two women were gassed while reading their Bibles in the kitchen some time during Saturday. Sergeant J. R. Gedye, of Newton, said it appeared that the two women had fallen from their chairs after becoming unconscious. Their bodies and the Bibles were found on the floor.
