Bravery Award To Aboriginal Woman

A full-blooded aboriginal woman has been awarded the Royal Humane Society’s certificate of "merit for her bravery in an attempt to save the life of a white man. The native woman, Elsie Doon, aged 28. dived into the flooded FitzFoy river, in the north-west corner of Western Australia, last December, in a bid to rescue a drowning stockman. Rodney Henderson. Henderson had attempted to swim the turbulent river to get I urgently needed food supplies. i Miss Doon was not able to save
Henderson and was almost swept away herself. Her brave actions were brought to the notice of the Royal Humane Society by the West Australian I Commissioner of Police (Mr .James O'Brien).
