BALI HA’I AGAIN
Queen Mother “Thrilled”
(N.Z. Press Association — Copyright) LONDON, June 19. The Queen Mother was thrilled and excited at Bali Ila'i's win and would send a cable to Sir Ernest Davis, said Lieutenant-Colonel M. .1. Gilliatt, the Queen Mother’s secretary, after the New Zealand horse, starting favourite at 15 to 8, had won the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal ] Ascot by half a length from the Irish horse Smiley. i The Queen Mother, accompanied by Princess Margaret, saw Bali Ha'i in the paddock and chatted with her trainer, Captain C. C. - Boyd-Rochfort. and the jockey. W H. Carr, before the race, the longest of the day—two miles and three-quarters. ] There were only four starters and for the most part of the race Bali Ha'i tailed behind Havasnack, Smiley and Magic North. With about six furlongs to go Carr moved Bali Ha'i up and beat Smiley by half a length in an exciting finish. The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret were in the unsaddling paddock to see Bali Ha'i return and congratulated the trainer and jockey. Captain Boyd-Rochfort said: ■’Her Majesty was absolutely thrilled. It is the second race Bali Ha’i has won in succession." Captain Boyd-Rochfort said there were no definite plans for Bali Ha’i's future. The horse might run in the Doncaster Cup and at Goodwood but nothing was decided yet.
