35 DIE IN SMASH
Train Rips Into Bus
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LAUFFEN (West Germany), June 21.
Thirty-five persons were killed and 33 injured when a train struck a bus at a level crossing near Lauffen yesterday. Fifteen of those injured were reported to be in a critical condition.
Police said the train dragged the bus 400 yards. Seats and other parts of the bus were scattered 300 feet from the scene of the crash. The fast passenger train, running from Stuttgart, ploughed into the bus, ripping off a side and throwing seats and bodies over the railway tracks. The bus was on a level crossing between Lauffen, north of Stuttgart, and Meimsheim, when it was hit.
It is believed that all the bus passengers and the driver were killed or injured. Lauffen police said the train was travelling at high speed.
