Tugs Used To Repl ace Wairua
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 19. The Minister of Marine (Mr Fox) announced today that the 46-y ear-old Government motor vessel Wairua had been permanently withdrawn from the Bluff-Stewart Island service. Mr Fox said plans and specifications for the new vessel had been completed. In the meantime, the Southland Harbour Board tug Awarua is maintaining the Stewart Island service. Sne will be replaced by the end of this month by the Marine Department’s tug, James O’Brien, from Westport. The James O’Brien could no; be expected to meet the full needs of travellers throughout the year and the provision of a more adequate service was being explored, said Mr Fox.
New Heart Machine.—A machine which transmits heartbeats through a wire from a healthy person to bring back to life a heart which' had stopped beating has been invented by Russian doctors, Moscow Radio announced. —Moscow, June 16.
