India 168, England 50 For Three

LONDON, June 18. A courageous innings of 81 by N. Contractor, India's left-handed opening batsman, who batted for more than four hours with a cracked rib, helped India total 168 in their first innings on the opening day of the second test against England at Lord’s today Contractor nad the rib cracked by a sharply rising ball from the England pace bowler J. B. Statham at the start of the innings, but in spite of the pain he hit one 6 and nine 4’s in a stay of 255 minutes.
