Murray was hitting his tee shots particularly well from the beginning At the 468 yd second hole he was on the green with his second and. at *e short third, he was 2ft from the bole with his drive. He dropped one stroke at the fourth, but hit a good iron at the next hole to reach the green in two again. Murray was on the green in two again at the 491 yd sixth, and two putts at this hole gave him a four against the scratch score for the hole of five.

The short (187 yd seventh hole was done in scratch figures, ana Murray was on the green with his second again at the eighth (376 yd ). At the 461 yd ninth Murray was on the green in three, then holed his first putt for a birdie four, tp give him a three-under-scratch first half of 34.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first, with Murray again driving, approaching and putting well. He drove to the greeri at the tenth for scratch figures, and

showed his skill at recovery on the next two holes, both of which found ns playing to the green from under the trees. A beautiful recovery from the trees at eleventh went to within Bft of the pin. Murray was on the green in two for the next three holes and, at the 528 yd sixteenth, he was pin-high on the fairway with his second. He hit his first approach on to the green, and was slightly unfortunate in not scoring another birdie here. At the seventeenth Murray holed a b'ft putt for scratch figures, proving that he could retain his good form under pressure.
