THE AWFUL ONWARDNESS OF THINGS

An “astounding” future for air transport in New Zealand was forecast by the Prime Minister. Mr Nash, when he addressed the Hutt Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce . . . within the next decade airliners would offer a same-day service between New Zealand and London —News item.
Oh what astonishing Vistas are opened up by the Growth Of air Transport! (Sir, I’m quite mad about Vistas, aren’t You?) —The Prospects before us appear really dizzying, both From the little Kiwi’s and the Oversize Visitor’s Points of View.
With a same-day Service between our N.Z. and their U.K., Think of the Possibilities’ We’ll be able to spend Monday to Friday working in London or Leeds or Llanfairynghornwy, say, And fly home to Matamata, Motueka or Motomoa each Week-end.
Or, put it the other Way’ round, we could spend the Week here (Where the Hours are easier) and our Week-ends THERE
(Where the Hours are more practical for drinking the Saturday Beer, And the sabbatical Tedium is a little less difficult to bear).
Things like Orchestras and Universities which cost so much to maintain Will be unnecessary Here when Eng’tnd’s just over the Road— As for art-minded Jokers and those handicapped by excessive Brain. They’ll be catered for THERE, without adding to the local taxpayer’s Load.
No, we shan’t want any Theatres or Bookshops, not even big Stores When daily commuting by Air makes Inches of thousands of Miles— When only the T.A.8., Teashop and Gas Station proudly engirdle the Shores Of this island Dormitory Suburb of the British Isles! t -1
