Mrs Robertson, Of Westport

WESTPORT, June 12.

Mrs Margaret Constance Robertson. M.8.E., of Westport, has been a good worker for various organisations in the Buller district. She was Mayoress of Westport for 16 years, actively assisting her late husband, Mr John Robertson. Mrs Robertson is a member of the Buller Hospital Commission and Buller Hospital Comforts Committee. having previously served on the Buller Hospital Board for 15 years. She has also been a keen worker for the Red Cross Society, the Crippled Children Society, the Plunket Society and Girl Guild Association

During World War II Mrs Robertson was one of the hardest workers In the Soldiers' Comforts Committee. She was elected a life member of the Westport women’s branch of the R.S.A. for her work, and has held the position of patron for some time. Mrs Robertson has always had a keen interest in sport. She closely followed the activities of the gallopers and trotters raced by her late husband and the sporting interests of members of her family, who have . distinguished themselves in swimming, golf, croquet and Rugby, while her oldest son, Johnny Robertson, gained world fame as a cornet player. Mrs Robertson is a vice-presi-dent and playing member of the Rangamarie Croquet Club. She is patron of the Westport and Westport R.S.A. Women's Bowling Clubs.
