PEOPLE IN THE PLAY
The Sydenham and Canterbury spin bowler, D. L. Gallop, has shown his sporting versatility by ap-
pearing for the Sydenham senior Rugby team this season. Playing at first five - eighths, Gallop has played soundly, and has been a particularly proficient handler. But Gallop is
- XSUL Vraiiop is also playing table tennis this winter, and at this game, too, he is making quite rapid progress.
Maureen Murray < Sacred Heart) was the outstanding player against Technical in the senior basketball match last Saturday. Her field play was of a high standard, her goal throwing outstanding, and she used her height to advantage.
Equally at home in the left and right-half positions, W. Rodger, of Western, is one of the best allround footbailers playing senior soccer in C h r i stchurch. Aged 29, and from Glasgow, Rodger gained selection for Canterbury last season. This year he has been in great form and his
inclusion in the Canterbury and South Island teams was well justified. An expert at turning defence into attack, Rodger scored three excellent goals in Western’s recent 5-4 win over Christchurch City.
The Canterbury. South Island and New Zealand indoor basketball representative, I. A. Mcßae, has recently been transferred to Wellington. While in Christchurch, Mcßae played for the University club, and it is thought likely that, back in Wellington, he will play for his old college, Rongotai. A former Christchurch resident Mr Ted Spicer, died in the North Island last month. Mr Spicer, who had been living in the Wairarapa for the last 47
years, was well known as a coach of athletes and cyclists. Among those he trained were the runner Randolph Rose, and the cyclist. Tommy Oakly. He was also a life member of the Wairarapa Boxing Association,
Although the former Southland representative, K. Tremain seems a little young to
have reached full development as a lock, he has been Playing extremely well for Lincoln College and in the trial matches and his selection for today’s inter - island
game was fully deserved. Tremain is a fast and clever side-row forward, and it may be in that capacity that most will be seen of him in the next season or two. ★ The Nomads senior soccer team owes a great deal of its success this season to the consistent play of D.
