N.Z. INSURANCE CENTENARY

170 Businessmen At Company Function

The New Zealand Insurance Company. Ltd., had played its part in the development of New Zealand during the last century. It accepted the risks of the development of New Zealand's shipping and trading, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) said last evening. Speaking to nearly 170 men. representing all sections of the business community of Christchurch, at the company’s cocktail party, Mr Manning traced the early history of the company. “I remember as a lad in South Wales reading of the earthquake in San Francisco and little did I think that I would be in New Zealand to congratulate the company on its centenary.” the Mayor said.

Replying to the Mayor, the branch manager of the company, Mr R J. Daly, thanked the Mayor and businessmen for their attendance. and said that throughout the world, in 136 branches in 21 countries, the company was celebrating its centenary. “I have nothing but admiration for the men of wisdom who put their savings into the formation of the company,” he said.
