Posture Is Important
Posters on rigid posture are no longer a standard feature of school classrooms; but posture is still of fundamental importance. The Health Department believes that the following bulletin is as applicable to children as to adults: —
Aching muscles, aching feet, aching back and weary? Is this you after your day’s work? It could be your posture. Good posture will help your health and appearance.
Requirements for good posture: Always wear comfortable shoes—they must not be too tight nor must they be too loose. Buy only shoes that fit exactly and are comfortable.
Stand at full height, spread the weight of your body equally over the whole surface of each foot and equally between both feet. Hold your head high and your chin in. Have your knees straight. Tuck your abdomen in. When you stand against a wall the curves in your back should be only slight. Eat a well balanced diet and get sufficient sleep. Observing these rules improves appearance and your health by enabling the heart, the digestive, respiratory and circulatory organs to work better.
Train children to adopt correct posture automatically. Get them to “feel” good posture and you will find them instantly correcting slouchy, droopy attitudes.
