Long-Term Research In Auckland "The Press’ Special Service AUCKLAND, May 27. Long-term research into diabetes in pregnancy at the National Women’s Hospital has led to greatly-reduced losses of babies whose mothers developed the disease. Research into methods of preventing permanent diabetes in women who become mildly diabetic during pregnancy is continuing. says the annual report of the Auckland Medical Research Foundation. It was found that 48 women who developed diabetes had lost 38.8 per cent, of their babies in 175 previous pregnancies. A new policy of dealing with these patients was evolved, based on the research findings. The result was that in 62 subsequent pregnancies only 6.4 per cent, of the babies was lost.
