EMERGENCY PHONE SYSTEM
N.Z.-Wide Operation Foreseen (New Zeuiurtu Pres* . Association) WELLINGTON, May 27. Within the next 10 years the 111 emergency telephone could well be operating throughout the country, Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the Fire Service Council, told delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Urban Fire Authorities’ Association today. The service had. already been introduced in various parts of the country and was operating most successfully. The call is used for police, ambulance and fire brigades. The new system wqpld offer a much improved method of fixe reporting and reduce the need for street fire alarms, except in higher risk commercial and industrial areas with a non-resident population.
