ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY

Sunday Concepts Planned

So many young instrumentalists are now rehearsing with the Christchurch Orchestral Society on Sunday evenings that half of the present playing members are under 21 years of age. To give them performing experience the society plans to give a series of three informal Sunday concerts. The first concert will be held at the Workers’ Educational Association’s centre on the afternoon of June 21. Young people are especially invited to attend. The first programme will include a Schubert Symphony, the Toy Symphony, and items will be given by a children’s wind ensemble.

A second concert, with a children’s recorder and percussion band will be given in August The third concert will be in October. Only 100 will be admitted to each concert.

Other groups will be invited to take part in these programmes and they may combine and assist choral groups. In July the orchestra will give a concert in Gallery 91. Two of its players have been accepted for the National Youth Orchestra. The orchestra has vacancies for string players.
