LANCASTER PARK PARKING
Committee Studies New Plan
Parking inside the grounds at Lancaster Park is being replanned, and it is likely that admission to the car park will be by windshield sticker paid for in advance. The Victory Park Board at its meeting last evening decided the grounds committee should continue working on the plan. Reporting on a plan of parking that had been prepared, Mr J. O. Hattersley, of the grounds committee, said it was not satisfactory as it provided accommodation for only 125 cars. “We think there should be room for 150 cars. The plan has wide alley-ways so that cars can get in and out at any time, but this is not necessary,” he said. He showed the board a plan he had prepared for the accommodation of 156 cars. He suggested each parking space should be marked by square, surveyor’s type pegs, painted white at the top. “These pegs would be knocked level with the shingle and would give the attendants definite lines to work on.”
No Expense Mr Hattersley said his plan would involve the board in no expense. As cars entered the park they would be marshalled into rows, with the front line on the hedge near the street. Mr H. H. Wauchop advocated the use of a rope to indicate the line for parking cars. He said the method was used successfully at the New Brighton racecourse. Mr Hattersley suggested the car park admission ticket could be a windshield sticker, purchased in advance. The board decided to leave the matter to the grounds committee and Mr Hattersley.
