Telephone Hires Cost More
Many persons are apparently unaware that it costs 6d more tv order a taxi-cab by telephone that) it does to hire one from a stand or to hail one in the street. The extra charge for telephone hires is included in the schedule of Christchurch taxi fares authorised by the Commissioner of Transport (Mr H. B Smith) last October. According to the schedule the additional 6d is for “hirings oy telephone or arrangement, where the order is dispatched by means of the radio-telephone system." Other extra charges not widely known to hirers are: 6d on all fares of 5s or more; fid for each passenger in -excess of two; and fid for the carriage of a bicycle pram or luggage carried outside the cab.
