Golf America Retains Walker Cup

(N.Z Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, May 16. United States amateur golfers retained the Walker Cup at Muirfield, East Lothian, this afternoon, by nine matches to three. Britain, having lost Friday’s foursomes 4-0, needed to win six of today’s eight singles and halve another, but most of the team crashed to the Americans’ power golf. The United States won the singles by five matches to three. The Americans have lost the trophy only once—in 1938. Results of today’s singles (American names first) were:— C. Coe lost to J. Carr, 2 and 1: H. Ward beat G. Wolstenbolme. 9 and 8; W. Patton lost to R. Jack, 5 and 3: W. Hyndman beat D. Sewell. 4 and 3; W. Wettlaufer beat M. Lunt. 6 and 5; J. Niklaus beat W. DicksonSmith, 5 and 4; T. Aaron lost to A. Shepperson, 2 and 1: D. Beman beat M. Bonallack, 2 up.
