PERMITS FOR BUILDING
Increase In City Last Month Seventy-five more building permits were issued in Christchurch last month than in the corresponding period last year, and the value of the permits was £17,048 higher, than that for April last year. Altogether 389 permits were issued last month, including 112 for the Linwood ward. There were slight decreases in the numbers issued in the inner central, Sydenham, Woolston and New Brighton wards, but they were offset by the big rise of 57 for Linwood, an increase of more than 100 per cent. The value of the permits issued for fhe Linwood ward was also greatly increased .By comparison with the value of £38,826 for April last year, the permits were worth £155.655 this year. The biggest drop in value was in the outer central ward where 14 permits were issued at a value of £15,876 against eight worth £145.760 last year. There were also decreases in permit values for the inner central, Sydenham and Woolston wards. The other wards had marked increases in the value of permits issued. Comparative figures are:
