Edspell was two lengths and a half away third. Royal Jester, in spite of yesterday s win, will not go to Brisbane for the big winter races. His trainer. T. Green, scratched Royal Jester on Thursday from the Brisbane Cup and missed nominating the horse for the Doomben Cup. Royal Jester did not get an easy run yesterday. Coles appeared several times in a tight situation. . Royal Jester was hemmed in at the half-mile, and Coles had to check him slightly, dropping back to third last. Royal Jester was again boxed in at the turn and did not look like getting a run, but he tailed Flash Gem through. Coles switched Royal Jester to the outride and quickly took the lead. Not, Disgraced The Brisbane Cup favourite, the New Zealand horse, Foxmara, was not disgraced in finishing seventh It was his first start since finishing second to On Line in the Sydney Cup (two miles) on March 30, and the run should improve him greatly. Foxmara was seventh at the halfmile, and the jockey, R. Selkrig, hurried him up to be third at the turn. The New Zealand trainer Ashley Powell was disappointed with Ark Royal s performance in finishing sixth, five lengths behind Royal Jester. Ark Royal was last to the turn, and although he made up a little ground in the straight he did not look a likely winner. The veteran trainer, A. D. Webster, seldom fails to win a race with any horse he brings from New Zealand. His latest success was at Rosehill yesterday with Idle Fancy, an aged gelding. Idle Fancy won the Welter Handicap from Sea Hound, with Gay Emperor third. Webster has not entered Idle Fancy for any race at the Queensland Turf Club carnival in Brisbane next month.
