(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 17. Capet was pulled up with half a mile to go in the Pukemaori Hurdles at Invercargill on Saturday. The judicial committee reported that his rider, W. J. Hillis, said he could not account for the horse's unwiUingness to gallop and he just petered out. On his return to the birdcage the veterinary surgeon was unable to find anything wrong with the horse. He was to be examined again when he cooled out. An inquiry was held into the falling of Tadpole and The Trek at the jump near the five furlongs in the Orepuki Steeplechase. W. J. Hills, rider of Tadpole, said: "My horse just slipped underneath the fence and hit above the knee. He failed to gain his feet again. It was accidental." G. E. Lowry, rider of The Trek, said: "My horse slipped into the fence and failed to rise. There was no interference.’’ Lawrence bioke a fetlock at the home turn in the Southland Steeples and was destroyed.
