Tadpole monopolised the betting for the Orepukj Steeplechase at Invercargill yesterday, but he came to grief with five furlongs to run. Up till then he had made the running. Hunt the Slipper was under pressure at the turn and into the straight Patris and Shootalong were practically on terms, with Patris doing the better in the run in by threequarters of a length. Hunt the Slipper was eight lengths back, with 20 lengths to Sweet Column. Hack Win* Open Race Glenpark. which had been unable to win his way out of hack company. beat the open sprinter* in the Clifden Handicap, in which he was at long odds. a It was a clear-cut success and full of merit, as he was forced wide out into the straight and won by a comfortable margin. Kasr el Nil had taken over at the half-n)ile, where Subside. Mijiji. The Ranger, and Water Boy were next ahead of Black Star and Raglan. Subside moved through on the inner at the home turn to be first into the straight from Demolish, Black Star. Kasr el Nil, Water Bov. Glenpark (wide out), and Raglan. At the furlong Demolish, Subside, Black Star and Raglan were practically abreast. Glenpark did best in the run in and he came on to win comfortably bv two lengths and a half from Black Star, which beat Demolish by three-quarters of a length. There was a gap of four lengths jto Water Boy. followed by Subside. iKinsimm. and Kasr el Nil. with Cassius. Cattiva and The Ranger in .line next. Mijiji was last.
