VICTORIAN TEAM FOR LIONS
Four New Zealanders Selected (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, May 17. Four New Zealanders have been selected to play for Victoria against the British Isles Rugby team next Saturday, in the opening match of the Lions’ Australian and New Zealand tour. Victoria will be captained by the Australian international forward G. Vaughn, and will have three other Wallabies, L. Johnson, R. Kay and J. Cocks. Vaughn was a t£st forward in Britain in 1957-58, Johnson toured New Zealand in 1952, and Kay and Cocks were in New Zealand with the Wallabies last year. The four New Zealanders are fiveeighths, J. Anderson (Tokoroa); wing three-quarters, K. Lemon (Auckland), and two forwards, G. Nathan (North Auckland) and R. Ross (New Plymouth). Anderson played for Counties in 1955-57, and was also a Waikato junior representative. Nathan, a 14stone Maori hooker, played for Massey College, last year. Ross is a New Zealand journalist who played with Eastern Suburbs in Sydney, and with the Kiwis’ Club in Melbourne. Lemon played with the Suburbs and Eden clubs in Auckland before coming to Melbourne four years ago. A fifth New Zealander, the Navy hooker. E. Fougere, is a reserve forward for the Victorian team. The team is:— Backs: L. Johnson; K. Lemon, R. Kay, D. Gilroy, B. Lindsay; J. Anderson; J. Cocks. Forwards: K. Alexander; R. Ross, M. Woods, I. Moffit, ’J. Penwill; G. Vaughn (captain), G. Nathan, W. Gahan. Reserves. —Backs: P. Moroney, P. Gray, L. Seaman. Forwards: E. Fougere, M. van Gelder.
