FLOODED FARMLANDS.—This picture of flooded farmlands was taken on Saturday between Tai Tapu and Kaituna, on the Christchurch-Akaroa highway. The flooding is the result of the backing up of Lake Ellesmere before it was opened to the sea again late last week. Thousands of acres of farmlands surrounding the lake are under water.
