HEADQUARTERS FOR ALPINE CLUB
Possible Site In Mt. Cook Park Mountain headquarters in the Mount Cook National Park may become a reality for the New Zealand Alpine Club following a decision made last evening at the annual general meeting of the club. The meeting had been told of a policy decision made by the club committee that a headquarters building should be erected in the Foliage Ifill area of the national park, where suitable sites were available. A sub-committee is investigating the nature of the building, finance and prospective date for work to start. It was decided that the subcommittee should continue its investigations and report to the next annual meeting of the club. The retiring president (Mr R. Syme) said an area had been set aside in the national park for the erection of club huts and the club had ‘‘staked a claim” to a site.
