INSURANCE BALL

400 At Winter Garden

The annual ball of the Christchurch district Insurance Institute of New Zealand was held with about 400 present at the Winter Garden recently. The chairman (Mr M. R. Miles) and Mrs Miles, received the guests with the immediate past president (Mr R. Ferguson) and Mrs Ferguson, and the vice-president (Mr G T. Eltoft) and Mrs Eltoft. In the official party were the secretary of the Insurance Institute of New Zealand (Mr J. Mclvor) and Mrs Mclvor, the chairman of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants (Mr A. W. Mann) and Mrs Mann, and the president of the Canterbury Law Society (Mr E. B. E. Taylor) and Mrs Taylor. The ball was arranged by Mrs G. Ritchie, and Messrs K. W. Stacey and M. Healey. The ballroom and foyer were decorated with humorous insurance cartoons drawn by Mr F. Nicholls, and balloons and streamers were used for a festive effect. Mrs Miles wore a dress of pale blue French brocade, the bodice having an off-the-shoulder neckline, and the skirt flaring down to the floor. Mrs Ferguson wore a peacockblue crystalline gown, the bodice tucked, with a drape over the shoulder, and the skirt a fitting sheath in front and gathered full at the back. Mrs Eltoft’s tropique silk gown had a fitting bodice with a halter neckline and a full, long skirt.
