TAXES ON FARMERS
“Incentive Taken Away” Taxes on farmers had increased to the point where the incentive to produce and build up assets was being taken away from the individual, said the chairman of the North Canterbury provincial district of Federated Farmers ‘Mr Rainey) at the annual provincial agricultural section conference in Christchurch yesterday. “The land-owner is taxed while he builds and when he dies the Government takes a further large slice from this asset in the form of death duties. We must now have reached the position where those who have property are trying to dispose of it to their families before the Government “an claim another share. “Those in power say there are means to pass assets on to the family but any who have tried will have their own ideas on this matter.” Mr Rainey said.
