"H-Bombs For Sale"

‘ SAN FRANCISCO, May 14. The United States Atomic Energy Commission will sell to the right person an atomic bomb or hydrogen bomb. Dr. Wilson Frank, of the University of California radiation laboratory, said today. They could be purchased for peaceful use at a cost of 500,000 dollars and up. The atomic bomb would pack the explosive force of 5000 tons of T.N.T. and would be delivered in a package no bigger than 30 inches in diameter, he told a symposium of scientists. •‘On the other hand, you could buy a thermonuclear device (hydrogen bomb)* with the power of -fiver million tons of T.N.T. for one million dollars,” he said. “Of course, they might be cheaper in quantity." Such nuclear devices could be used for making harbours, excavating vast caves, turning rock into chemicals and creating steam for power, he said.
