Man Charged With Murder • MELBOURNE, May 15 Police today charged a 38-year-old caterer with the murder of a well-known criminal, Patrick Francis Maloney, aged 34, who was shot from point-blank rang* l when he answered a knock on his door on Wednesday evening Since then police have conducted a widespread manhunt, extending into several States, in their efforts to make an arresr. for what they consider was a gangland murder A panel van believed to have been seen outside Maloney’* home when he was shot was seized by police this morning ■Police said yesterday that three weeks ago Maloney took charge of a flourishing illegal starting price bookmaking business Maloney had a long record ot crime and police said they were certain the killing was an underworld murder, probably prompted by a long-standing grudge or feud.
