AIR TRAFFIC FROM CITY

Expert’s View Of Future (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 15. In his report on the Mangere international airport project which he presented to a meeting of Auckland Mayors today, Mr Leigh Fisher, an American airport consultant, said Auckland was the logical place for an international airport to service New Zealand. Christchurch was an essential stopping place for tourists travelling to the South Island, but the airlines would get their “bread and butter’’ business from regular airline users—the businessmen. The route from Christchurch to Britain over the South Pole passed over areas that were lightly populated and, except for cargo operations, Mr Fisher said he did not think this route would have much effect on Auckland. He understood Tasman Empire Airways intended to start a Wel-lington-Australia service and this would take some passengers away from Auckland, but the greatest effect would be on the Christchurch traffic.
